A visual summary of the period in while GNU tried and failed to hostile-fork the Libreboot project, which only lead to the Libreboot project becoming even more well-known and later Canoeboot stole the whole show

I drew this on a whim, to both summarise and satirise the Cold Boot War.

The period of 2023 to 2025 was a massive period of hostility between GNU/FSF and the Libreboot project. It ended the way it began: FSF now uses Canoeboot heavily, and Libreboot 20220710 is also available from the GNU project.

All they did was cause me to do even more development work than usual, and a lot of good work was done.

Libreboot is my baby. In the process, Libreboot got a sibling, namely Canoeboot.

On this day, two years later, GNU still doesn’t yet have a stable release of their fork; Canoeboot and Libreboot have both had about 20 releases between them, many of which are stable releases, with lots of new hardware support added in both projects.
